Yanchep Lagoon from the air, showing the stretch of reef in the ocean and the calm turquoise water infront of the white sand beach

Only 45 minutes north of Perth CBD, Yanchep is a sleepy coastal gem with stunning, iconic natural landmarks and ever-increasing facilities, making it a fantastic choice for a great day out, or even a long weekend away.

With so many things to do in Yanchep, make planning your day out super easy by seeing the top destinations, events, places to eat and family activities in the local area, using our handy guide below…

Yanchep Lagoon

An absolutely stunning destination and one of our top 10 family-friendly beaches in Perth.

It’s easy to spend a few hours here, with a cafe, BBQs, toilets, showers, and a playground all within a stone’s throw.

Yanchep Lagoon is perfect for families and those wanting more sheltered, calmer waters than are often found at most places along the Perth coast.

The lagoon is formed by a 300m stretch of reef, providing snorkelling, swimming and paddleboarding opportunities, so don’t forget your goggles!

Yanchep National Park

Yanchep National Park is not only beautiful (and huge!) but also the perfect destination to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Park fees apply to enter the park, but once inside you’ll be spoiled for choice for walks, activities, and places to just relax.

With so much to do in Yanchep National Park alone, it’s easy to spend more than just a day here. Henry White Oval is one of my favourite campsites, with excellent facilities, relatively private tent sites, and kangaroos casually relaxing on the grass by the kitchen block – highly recommended!

See Explore Parks WA to see everything that Yanchap National Park has to offer.

Splendid Park

Home to a 1.4 km asphalt bike track loop, AFL, soccer and cricket pitches, a quality skate park and a small playground. Dogs are welcome on the lead.

Sports events are often held here at the weekend, and Splendid Park is also home to the very popular Carols in The Park event held annually in early December, with Christmas Carols, fireworks, and family-friendly fun.

When the park is event-free, it is often quiet and not unusual to get the entire bike track to yourself.

Yanchep Summer Surf Salt Markets

Monthly markets by the beach with artisan stalls, food trucks, live music and beautiful sunsets.

The event runs through the warmer months from 4:30 to 8:00 pm and has a laid-back but lively vibe.

Check out the Facebook page for upcoming dates.

Sun City Country Club

Enjoy either 9 or 18 rounds of golf at the public access Sun City Country Club before making your way to the clubhouse for either light bites or a full meal and drinks.

Other facilities include a large grass driving range, a chipping area, and putting green.

See opening times and pre-book online.

Mary Lindsay Homestead

This historic site is now home to a Community Centre dedicated to promoting culture and art in the community.

The centre is open for free to the public from Friday to Sunday every week throughout the year. It showcases multi-media work by talented local artists who also host workshops and events.

Places to Eat

Orion Cafe

A newly opened beachfront venue with modern, beachy decor and many seating options for dining with an ocean view.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for eating in or takeaway, serving an eclectic mix of seafood, burgers and Asian cuisine alongside the usual brekkie options. However, service can be slow because this place can get busy due to its ideal location by the lagoon.

Lil’ Sistas

A very popular cafe with locals, serving (in my opinion) the best coffee in Yanchep! The food is good and portions are generous.

It’s a small cafe so seating options are limited, but Yanchep Lagoon is only a short drive if you want to enjoy your food with a view.

Char Grill Kebab House

Opening in 2024 and already a firm favourite takeaway with locals, the food from Char Grill never fails to hit the spot.

This is authentic Turkish food with options to suit everyone’s palate.

The portions are generous and full of flavour, with the owner even offering to customise our food to get it just how we liked it, now that’s service!

Yanchep Central Kebabs & Pizza

With good portions, reasonable prices, tasty food, and friendly service, this is a great option for anyone looking for a decent takeaway in the area.

Options include pizzas, burgers, fish and chips, and more. The pizzas here have never disappointed, with a lovely crust and generous toppings it’s hard to find better in the local area.

Bombay Bustle Indian Restaurant

A good choice for a sit-down meal (although takeaway is also an option), with plenty of inside seating and tasty Indian food.

Playgrounds

Yanchep is a rapidly expanding suburb so new, modern playgrounds are popping up regularly alongside the new housing.

Three of the best are listed here…

Capricorn Beach Playground

A large playground situated a short stroll from Capricorn Beach with two distinct areas: large slides and a rotating rope swing for older kids and a small pirate ship and climbing frame for little ones.

The BBQ and seating area is next to the smaller kids’ play area, but unfortunately, there are no toilets nearby.

Mariala Vista Park

A fun playground for older kids, with plenty of climbing options, a large slide and a BMX pump track, all nestled within the trees providing plenty of shade cover.

While the playground could benefit from a light uplift, it’s still full functional and has some fun, unique elements like the birds nest climbing structure and Yanchep’s only pump track.

Greenside Drive Playground

A fun playground with water play, a flying fox, small climbing hill and nature play elements. There are free BBQs and picnic benches, but no toilets on site.

Admittedly in need of some TLC, this playground is not the most modern, but the elements are there for your kids to still have a great time.
